About Me
Gretchen Diem, Ph.D
My career has been dedicated to providing psychological services to adults with new and chronic health conditions.
Prior to founding Madison Health Psychology, I worked for nearly 20 years as a Health Psychology clinician, consultant, researcher, and manager for several healthcare organizations in both inpatient and outpatient medical settings. My expertise is in providing services across the spectrum of care from prevention and wellness to the management of acute and complex chronic disease. I treat patients with a range of health conditions including cardiac and pulmonary disease, diabetes, obesity, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), cancer, chronic pain, gastrointestinal and neurological disorders, autoimmune conditions, sleep disorders, organ transplants, and women’s reproductive health concerns (infertility, high risk pregnancy, pregnancy loss, and postpartum depression). I also work with family members and caregivers to support them as they help their loved ones through difficult medical situations.
My experiences have provided me with an in-depth knowledge of medical diagnoses, surgical interventions, pharmacologic treatments, and the unique psychological issues that arise when changes in health occur. Through my various roles, I have also developed long-standing relationships with colleagues across the Madison medical community, which allows me to collaborate and coordinate with other members of the treatment team when appropriate.
Given the connection between our minds and bodies, I believe it is important to approach health from a holistic, whole person perspective. I consider it a privilege to be a part of one’s health journey and to help individuals learn how to harness the power of the mind-body connection to optimize health and well-being. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you.
